A Russian Viewpoint on HostExploit Q4 2011 Report 'Top 50 Bad Hosts'

Observations from a Russian viewpoint form the basis of a press release from community partner Group-IB in announcing the co-publication of HostExploit's report for Q4 2011 'Top 50 Bad Hosts & Networks' in both Russian and English languages.
HostExploit's regular quarterly report presents levels of malicious activity found on all of the 39,796 currently registered autonomous systems (ASeS) through a series of charts and tables. It also displays a league table of the Top 50 'Bad Hosts'. The Group-IB press release from PR manager, Bogdan Vovchenko, highlights that near neighbour Lithuania provides this quarter's overall #1 Bad Host (AS47583 Hosting Media). Another close neighbour, Latvia, presents as the #1 country for the highest levels of malicious activity served from hosting providers registered there.
Further, Group-IB point out that AS47583 Hosting Media should have paid attention to their #2 position, as evidenced in the Q3 report, as this could have served as a warning that high levels of malicious activity were being delivered from their servers. As a consequence of failing to heed these signs, and of taking the appropriate action, AS47583 Hosting Media'sĀ position worsened to the #1 spot as shown in this Q4 end-of-year analysis. In addition to being in the #1 overall position AS47583 Hosting Media retained the #1 spot in the 'botnet' category.
Group-IB contrasted Hosting Media's inaction with that of former #1 AS33626 Oversee.net who, as a responsible host, took remedial action upon finding itself in the top position and, as a consequence, has now dropped to #12 in the overall league table.
